“Real Heroes” Comic Book Artwork on Display at John Wayne Airport.

Mixed Media Collage artist Fernando Del Rosario brings his “Real Heroes” collection of inspiring quotes and original composed art to John Wayne Airport (JWA). Del Rosario’s artwork is on display in the JWA Community Focus Space from August 15 – September 17, 2019.

“Based on a childhood comic book collection 31 years in the making, Fernando Del Rosario brings together an imaginative way to express his love for comic book superheroes and inspirational quotes by extraordinary people through his art,” said Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett. “Children and adults alike who travel through John Wayne Airport are sure to enjoy his vibrant exhibit.”

As a young boy growing up trying to find his place in a new country, Del Rosario found solace and inspiration in the stories and characters of the superheroes he would see on television or read about in the pages of a comic book. His interests expanded to poetry, philosophy, and quotes from famous people like Abraham Lincoln, Bruce Lee, Nelson Mandela, and Walt Disney. Del Rosario honors what has artistically inspired him throughout his years in his “Real Heroes” installation.

“My Real Heroes collection is meant to grab you, lose yourself within each piece and come out inspired, motivated, and creatively recharged,” said Del Rosario. “Every one of these comic book pages is from my collection as a kid. And this is my way of sharing my story and my inspiration with the public.”

In addition to being an artist, Del Rosario is also a seasoned advertising creative who bridges the world of advertising, marketing, design, art, and education. He has also been an art instructor at the Art Institute of California-Orange County for 17 years and California State University Fullerton’s Visual Art Department. His artwork has been featured in more than 30 gallery showings throughout Southern California, Oregon, and Las Vegas, including four art gallery representations.
