The Deputy Airport Director, Public Affairs, is responsible for all aspects of media, community and customer relations, and communications at John Wayne Airport. Public Affairs staff is charged with responding to media and public inquiries; serving as front-line customer service agents; coordinating Ambassador volunteer programs; managing museum-quality exhibitions; disbursing information via the Airport website and social media; enforcing the Settlement Agreement, Access Plan, and the General Aviation Noise Ordinance. The Public Affairs division is comprised of four units, Access & Noise, Communications, Customer Relations, and Public Relations.

Mr. Freed has been with John Wayne Airport for more than 37 years and has served as Deputy Airport Director, Public Affairs, since 2016. He began his career at the Airport in 1988, where he held various management positions, including three of the four functional areas within Public Affairs. Before joining the Airport, he was an Executive Assistant to former Orange County Supervisor Roger Stanton. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
