JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT INTRODUCES NEW AIRCRAFT RESCUE AND FIRE FIGHTING VEHICLE
Costa Mesa, Calif. – John Wayne Airport today introduced its new Oshkosh Striker Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicle, “Crash 2”, with an airfield demonstration of its advanced features.
“The County of Orange and John Wayne Airport value our long standing partnership with the Orange County Fire Authority,” said Second District Supervisor Michelle Steel. “This new state-of-the-art Aircraft Fire Fighting and Rescue Vehicle will ensure that airfield assets and the more than 10 million annual passengers are protected in the event of an emergency.”
The new ARFF unit with its advanced technology, engine maintenance accessibility, and efficient pumping and systems capabilities will serve to more effectively deliver superior fire and rescue services on the airfield.
The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) provides firefighting and rescue services at John Wayne Airport on a 24/7 basis, responding to everything from medical emergencies and disabled aircraft to fuel spills and major aircraft accidents. OCFA also provides overnight protection of the many multimillion dollar commercial aircraft, more than 400 general aviation aircraft, and fuel farm.
“Safety and Security are critical to our mission at John Wayne Airport, protecting lives and property on and around the airfield,” said Barry Rondinella, Airport Director, John Wayne Airport. “We are excited to announce the newest addition to our Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting fleet, and to acknowledge the Orange County Board of Supervisors for providing this high-tech vehicle and the Orange County Fire Authority for their skilled crew who operate and maintain it.”
