Filming and Photography
John Wayne Airport (JWA) has been the site of many major film productions, such as “Demolition Man” starring Sylvester Stallone, “Clear and Present Danger” with Harrison Ford, “Up Close and Personal” with Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer, “Jerry Maguire” starring Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger, “The Insider” starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe and “Elizabethtown” starring Orlando Bloom and Susan Sarandon.
Several commercials filmed at JWA have promoted travel and airport related businesses such as HMSHost Restaurants, McDonald's, American Airlines, Dollar-Rent-A-Car and Visit Anaheim.
Motion picture, television and still photography projects have been filmed at JWA for Sprint, Lexus, Back Bay Limousine, California Pizza Kitchen, City National Bank, E-Baggs, Andiamo Luggage, Nordstrom and others.
Filming at JWA is governed by the County of Orange; no taxpayer dollars support filming at County-managed sites, including John Wayne Airport. All commercial, non-profit and student filming, videography and photography activities on Airport property require prior review and approval of the Airport Director, a County of Orange permit and a permit fee. In addition, direct costs for staff time to coordinate and supervise Airport filming are billed to the permit holder.
As a result of the events of September 11, 2001, filming has been limited and all requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
