The Deputy Airport Director (DAD), Public Affairs, is responsible for all aspects of government, media, community and customer relations, and communications at John Wayne Airport. Public Affairs staff is charged with responding to media and public inquiries; serving as front-line customer service agents; coordinating Ambassador volunteer programs; managing museum-quality exhibitions; disbursing information via the Airport website and Social Media; tracking local, state and federal legislation and regulations; enforcing the Settlement Agreement, Access Plan, and the General Aviation Noise Ordinance. The Public Affairs division is comprised of five units, Access & Noise, Communications, Customer Relations, Government Relations and Public Relations.

Mr. Freed has been with John Wayne Airport for nearly 35 years and has served as Deputy Airport Director (DAD), Public Affairs, since 2016. He began his career at the Airport in 1988, and prior to his appointment as DAD, he held various management positions including four of the five functional areas within Public Affairs. Before joining the Airport he was an Executive Assistant to former Orange County Supervisor Roger Stanton. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
