JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT STUDENT ART CONTEST WINNERS RECEIVE NATIONAL HONORS

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Two local Orange County students have been recognized in the national portion of the 2013 International Aviation Student Art Contest, themed "Flying Saves Lives."

Nicholas Kang of Cypress, California, won second place for his age category and Chelsey Lin from Irvine, California, won third place in her age category. Both entries were awarded based on their artwork interpretations of the theme (can be seen below).

Both students had their original artwork forwarded to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) main headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

"The artwork that has been brought forward by these students is truly amazing," said Airport Director Alan Murphy. "From how they depict the world of aviation, to the art work itself; these students have worked hard and for that, should be recognized."

On May 21, 2014, John Wayne Airport (JWA) will host a ceremony at the Lyon Air Museum recognizing all of the state and national winners from Orange County for all of their work and dedication.

JWA implemented its Annual Student Art Contest in 1990 as part of the opening of the Thomas F. Riley Terminal. The contest is open to all Orange County public and private school students in kindergarten through grade twelve. In 1996, the Airport began coordinating its art contest with the International Aviation Art Contest sponsored by the National Aeronautic Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration, in cooperation with the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale.
