Operation Dreamlift Visits Orange County
Tuesday, December 11, 2012, was no ordinary day for 80 critically ill children and their 74 chaperones from Canada. When their Alaska Airlines charter flight landed at John Wayne Airport (JWA) in the morning, these very special guests were warmly greeted by Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Alaska Airlines, John Wayne Airport Operations and members of JWA's Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Station 33.
British Columbia Canada's Sunshine Foundation organizes and provides an all-expenses-paid trip from Canada to Disneyland for children afflicted with life threatening illnesses. This year, approximately 100 off-duty employees from the Orange County Sherriff’s Department volunteered their time to escort these children and their chaperones to Disneyland for the day.
The "Dreamlift" project has been sending children with severe disabilities and life-threatening illnesses to the "Happiest Place on Earth" for 39 years. For more information please visit www.sunshine.ca.
