Orange County Ninety-Nines Celebrate their 50th Anniversary!
The year 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Orange County Chapter of the women’s aviation group known as the Ninety-Nines. To commemorate their anniversary, the OC Ninety-Nines held a celebration on June 15, 2012 at the Costa Mesa Country Club. Incoming and outgoing board members were recognized for their service to the chapter and longtime members were recognized for many years of dedication.
The local chapter is comprised of women pilots based at and around John Wayne Airport (JWA), and is part of the International Organization of Women Pilots, established in 1929 in New York by Amelia Earhart. Members of the local Ninety-Nines chapter promote aviation and educate the public about the history of women in aviation through education and community service, including volunteering as tour guides at JWA and as docents at the Lyon Air Museum at JWA. Since 1962, the OC Ninety-Nines have provided mentoring and scholarship opportunities designed to encourage women - young and old - to learn about and enjoy aviation.
John Wayne Airport extends a warm congratulations to the Orange County Chapter of the Ninety-Nines on its 50th Anniversary!
