Are you ready? September is National Preparedness Month!

Ready OC Logo

Are you ready for an earthquake? Do you have an emergency plan in place? The Orange County Board of Supervisors has designated September as "National Preparedness Month" so now is a great time to review emergency plans and supplies at home, in the car and in the office.

Preparation is the key to surviving any disaster, whether it be natural, health or man-made. You can start by visiting www.ReadyOC.org, which offers valuable resources about Emergency Preparedness. Another resource is AlertOC, a regional mass notification system designed to keep residents and businesses informed of emergencies and certain community events. By registering with www.AlertOC.com, time-sensitive voice messages from the county or city in which you live or work may be sent to your home, cell or business phone. Text messages may also be sent to cell phones, e-mail accounts and hearing impaired receiving devices.

At John Wayne Airport, management and staff take emergency preparedness seriously. Over the past few years, JWA strengthened its own level of emergency preparedness through establishment of an Emergency Response Team (ERT). The ERT, comprised of Airport employees within our five divisions, receive on-going education in fire safety, earthquake preparedness, CPR/First Aid, and hands-on training in the control and distribution of disaster related equipment and supplies. The ERT is intended to provide basic assistance during the critical first hours following a major disaster and assist first responders when and as necessary.

Take the first step today by making or refreshing an emergency supply kit and make or update an emergency plan for you and your loved ones. Be informed - be prepared!
