Construction Update

Almost a year after the grand opening of Terminal C, John Wayne Airport is still "Building on Excellence" with updates to the Airport roadway system. Multiple construction projects are now underway, including:

Seismic retrofitting

Site restoration on Airport Way

• Seismic retrofitting of the Airport's elevated roadway is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012. Components of this project include reinforcing columns with steel wraps and the replacement of expansion joints in the roadways. The majority of this construction is being undertaken at night to minimize passenger impacts.

• In October, the Airport plans to begin installing ramps every 100 feet along the lower level roadway curbside to improve accessibility.

• Updates to signage on the 55 Freeway entrance and exit ramps are underway.

• The construction access intersection on Airport Way was removed and the landscaped median there has been restored.

• A new Airport sign is being installed near the entrance to JWA at the intersection of MacArthur and Michelson. This sign is constructed of reclaimed concrete panels from old Parking Structure B1, which was removed in 2009 to make way for new Terminal C.
