Air Service Task Force

John Wayne Airport (JWA) has been working hard over the last few years to bring new carriers and new destinations to Orange County.  Since 2011, three new carriers (AirTran, Interjet and WestJet) have landed at JWA and six new nonstop destinations have been added.  But we're not stopping there!

Our air service development efforts have focused lately on identifying and pursuing Orange County's key unserved markets.  JWA's own research, and input from the Orange County Business Council (OCBC) and the Orange County Visitors Association (OCVA), put the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area at the top of the list.

To help strengthen our business case to present to potential air carriers, a new Air Service Task Force has been created.  Airport Director, Alan Murphy, announced the purpose and membership of the Task Force at the Annual OC Tourism Conference in May.  In addition to Alan Murphy, an impressive group of senior executives from OCBC and OCVA have already started working on this new initiative.

Representing the Orange County Business Council are:

  • Laura DeSoto, Senior Vice President, Sales and Strategy, Experian

  • Tom Knox, Vice President, Managed Markets & Government Affairs, Allergan, Inc.

  • Robert J. Mayer, Jr., Vice Chairman, The Robert Mayer Corporation

  • Julie Miller-Phipps, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Kaiser Permanente of Orange County

The Orange County Visitors Association is represented by:

  • Jay Burress, CTA, President & CEO, Anaheim/Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau

  • Gary Sherwin, CDME, APR, Chairman, Orange County Visitors Association

The Task Force's first step is to gather additional data about the demand for nonstop service to the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area that can be presented to prospective air carriers.

We're hopeful that these ongoing efforts will result in new nonstop destinations for Orange County travelers, and we look forward to providing new air service opportunities to in-demand locations, including the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area.
