Construction Update

Bristol Street Slope

In July 2014, John Wayne Airport (JWA) began construction on the Bristol Street Slope Stabilization Project.  The dirt slope, located south of the airfield and adjacent to Bristol Street North between Campus Drive and the SR-73 freeway bridge, will be planted and transformed into a more stable and aesthetically pleasing slope.  The area is approximately 1,500-feet long and 20 feet high at its highest point above street grade.  The project is scheduled to be completed by winter 2014.

Lower Roadway Directional Signage

To help passengers locate their bus, taxi, limousine or door-to-door shuttle service, John Wayne Airport (JWA) has installed a colorful wall “wrap” on the Lower Level wall between Terminals B and C.  These ground transportation services are offered in JWA’s Ground Transportation Center (GTC) located on the Arrival (lower) Level, between the A2 and B2 Parking Structures.  The bright new signage has ground transportation and way-finding graphics designed to help passengers find their way to the GTC, as well as Terminals B and C.

Passengers arriving in Terminal C may use the White Taxi Phone located adjacent to Baggage Carousel 5 and dial 2.8294 to request a pick-up at Column #14.

Bob Hope USO Opens at JWA this Fall

With an estimated 50,000 troops and their families passing through John Wayne Airport (JWA) each year, JWA is excited to welcome a new USO facility to the Thomas F. Riley Terminal this fall.  Hosted by the Bob Hope USO, the new facility will provide service members and their families a welcoming place to rest as they travel through JWA.  In addition to the new space at JWA, the Bob Hope USO has centers at Los Angeles, Ontario and Palm Springs International Airports.

Since 1941, the USO has lifted the spirits of American troops and their families throughout the country and the world.  Each year the USO provides direct service through their airport centers and other moral and recreational services to more than 100,000 military members, their families and eligible military retirees in Southern California.  Visit to learn how you can get involved.

JWAFREEFI's new interfaceTravelers recently connecting to JWAFREEWIFI in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal may have noticed a new interface for John Wayne Airport’s free wireless network provided by Boingo Wireless.  On the new interface, travelers are provided with the option of seamlessly browsing the Airport website,, for pertinent airport information at 3 Mbits/s.  Browsing of other websites is offered for a period of 60 minutes at no cost, after watching a brief video.  Paid options without advertisements are also available.

The increased bandwidth was accomplished by upgrading existing technology to the latest hardware and software standards.  Going forward, additional Wi-Fi access points will be installed to provide all public areas within the Thomas F. Riley Terminal with free Wi-Fi service.  Travelers will also soon experience a boost in their cellular service within the Riley Terminal once a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) has been installed.
