Southwest Airlines Announces New Destinations

Travelers seeking international flights have new opportunities at John Wayne Airport (JWA). On August 10, Southwest Airlines (Southwest) launched its inaugural service to Mexico with a news conference and Mexican-themed celebration at JWA.  In addition to the new service from JWA to San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Southwest will be taking over AirTran Airways’ daily service between JWA and Mexico City on November 2, 2014.

JWA travelers looking for more domestic destinations will appreciate Southwest’s new nonstop service between Orange County and Dallas Love Field.  With the official repeal of the Wright Amendment, which restricted most nonstop flights to Texas destinations and neighboring states, Southwest is launching its new Dallas route on November 2, 2014.

Southwest Airlines began service from Orange County in May 1994, with 15 flights to two cities:  Oakland and San Jose.  Twenty years later, Southwest is Orange County’s largest air carrier with more than 50 flights a day offering nonstop service to 10 cities throughout the U.S. and Mexico.

Editor’s Note: JWA wishes Cabo San Lucas a safe and speedy recovery from the damage caused by Hurricane Odile in September.  As a result of the hurricane, Southwest has cancelled flights to Cabo San Lucas through October 14, 2014.  For further information or customer accommodations, contact Southwest reservations at 1-800-I-FLY-SWA or visit
