John Wayne Airport Arts Program Update
John Wayne Airport's Arts Program has some exciting exhibitions this spring. The ORANGE COUNTY: Destination Art and Culture exhibit is currently showcasing the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. Among other interesting visuals, the exhibit features more than two dozen batons signed by celebrity conductors. Founded in 1954, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County is Orange County's oldest and most recognized music organization, presenting the world's most acclaimed symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, performing organizations and artists. A catalyst for cultural and educational development throughout its region, the Philharmonic Society is a key resident company in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The exhibition runs through early August 2014, and is located on the bridge between Terminal B and C on the Departure (upper) Level, pre-security.
Also on display through July is the "JOAN JOAN JOAN – One Subject, Many Artists" exhibition. There are over 103 artworks by 98 different world famous artists displayed in the Vi Smith Concourse Gallery, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Frank Gehry, David Hockney, Helmut Newton, Zandra Rhodes and Alexis Smith. The subject for these varied works of art is Joan Quinn, a friend of these artists and patroness of the arts. The Vi Smith Concourse Gallery is located on the Departure (upper) Level, across from Gates 2 through 5 in Terminal A and across from Gates 18 through 21 in Terminal C.
The Community Focus Space Program features art by Orange County artists, local community organizations, and artists with Orange County ties in solo-style exhibitions. Currently on display in the Community Focus Space Program are photographs by Fullerton artist Kevin Warn, which feature still life and city landscapes, as well as scenes of nature. From April 8 through May 8, works from Laguna Beach artist Mike Tauber will be on display. Tauber's medium is tile, hand painted to create mosaics.
