John Wayne Airport Requests "Port of Entry" Status - Update
In November, John Wayne Airport (JWA) submitted a request to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to designate JWA as a "Port of Entry." JWA meets or exceeds all defined criteria for designation as a Port of Entry and the County of Orange believes that the benefits of the designation are measurable, substantial and clearly merit the associated Federal Government expense.
JWA's request included letters of support from the Orange County Business Council and the Orange County Visitors Association. Representatives Campbell, Issa, Lowenthal, Rohrabacher, Royce and Loretta Sanchez have also expressed support for the designation. In February, John Wayne Airport Director Alan L. Murphy was notified by the Acting Port Director that our request had been forwarded to CBP headquarters in Washington, D.C. with a recommendation for approval. While this is a positive first step, there is a very long way to go in the process…stay tuned!
