PASSENGERS ENCOURAGED TO PLAN AHEAD FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRAVEL

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Labor Day weekend signals the end of the summer travel season and a particularly busy few days at John Wayne Airport (JWA). Last year, more than 93,000 passengers used the Airport during the Friday-through-Monday holiday. JWA reminds those planning to travel during the September 1st through 4th holiday weekend that the aviation industry continues to operate at the “Orange” alert level, which means security is at a heightened level at all US airports.

“Our passengers have been very understanding and cooperative with the recent changes in the Airport environment,” said John Wayne Airport Director Alan L. Murphy. “We appreciate their continued patience as we work to ensure a safe and secure travel environment at John Wayne Airport.”

Per the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the following items may not be carried through security screening or onto the aircraft and should be left behind or packed in the checked luggage: all liquids and gels of any kind including all beverages, shampoo, sun tan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, some makeup and other items of similar consistency. Exceptions include baby formula and breast milk if a baby or small child is traveling, essential non-prescription medicines and prescription medicines with a label matching the name of the ticketed passenger.

Passengers should also know that beverages purchased in the area beyond the security check points must be consumed before boarding the aircraft.

In an effort to make the holiday weekend travel as comfortable and stress free as possible, JWA offers the following additional travel tips:

Plan Smart: If your flight is scheduled to depart between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., please allow a minimum of two (2) hours for parking, check-in and security screening. That includes Saturday and Sunday.

Pack Smart: Be prepared for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staff to enforce the “1+1” rule. That means you are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item – such as a purse, briefcase, laptop computer or diaper bag – through the security screening and onto the aircraft. Remember – no prohibited items in your carry-on luggage.

Park Smart: JWA offers a variety of parking options. Four terminal parking structures at the rate of $17 per day, an off-site parking lot for $12 per day and convenient valet parking for $23 per day are available.
