SANTA ANA, Calif. –
John Wayne Airport (JWA) has increased security in response to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security elevating the national threat level for aviation from Yellow (elevated) to Orange (high) Alert.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is requiring the following changes to airport screening procedures:
- All liquids and gels of any kind may not be placed in carry on baggage, carried through the security checkpoint or carried onboard aircraft. Those items are allowed in checked baggage only.
- Prohibited items include all beverages, shampoo, sun tan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, some makeup and other items of similar consistency. Exceptions include baby formula and breast milk if a baby or small child is traveling, essential non-prescription medicines and prescription medicines with a label matching the name of the ticketed passenger.
- Beverages purchased in the sterile area must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft. “John Wayne Airport is in full compliance with all federal security directives and will continue to work closely with local, state and federal officials to ensure the safety of all travelers and visitors to the Airport,” said Airport Director Alan L. Murphy. “We ask that passengers traveling during this time plan ahead and be patient.”
John Wayne Airport encourages passengers to arrive at the Airport two and one half to three hours prior to their scheduled departure to allow time for parking, check-in and the security screening process. Due to the intensified security screening, the process is expected to take considerably longer than normal. It is highly recommended that passengers and greeters confirm flight status with their air carrier or they may visit our Web site at www.ocair.com or call the Airport at 949.252.5200.
Visit the TSA Web site at: http://www.tsa.gov/press/index.shtm for more information on prohibited items and additional travel tips. |
