SANTA ANA, CA – John Wayne Airport (JWA) has earned national recognition
by achieving first place for its 2004 Annual Report and second place
for its Web site, www.ocair.com, in the 2005 Excellence in Marketing
and Communications Contest sponsored by Airports Council International
of North America (ACI-NA). ACI-NA is the largest of six worldwide
regions of ACI, the authoritative voice of airports.
“It is an honor to be recognized by ACI-NA,” said JWA Airport Director
Alan Murphy. “Each year we strive to produce publications that provide
useful information to our stakeholders, while giving us an opportunity
to get important messages out to the community.”
In 2004, JWA redesigned its Web site to be more user-friendly, while
also providing more information that can assist visitors making travel
arrangements to Orange County, or who are using the airport to travel
to other destinations. It provides up-to-date airline information
for departures and arrivals, regular airport statistics including
number of passengers traveling, noise limits, airport parking information,
directions and travel tips. Of particular importance to local residents
is the new Airport Monitor feature which allows visitors to see traffic
patterns above Orange County.
This is not the first time JWA has earned national recognition by
ACI for its communications and marketing efforts. In 2002, JWA earned
honorable mention for its brochures; in 2000, second place for its
brochures; in 1999, second place for the annual report and honorable
mention for its brochures; and in 1998, JWA’s tour program earned
third place in the ACI contest.
As part of JWA’s ongoing effort
to provide good service to the community, summer travelers may
have noticed the airport’s
added customer service efforts, part of a program entitled
“Time Flies!
Let’s make sure you do.” New terminal signage, public address
announcements and “divesting tables” for passengers to place
personal items (keys,
wallets, cell phones) in a plastic bag to facilitate security
screening have been implemented.
More information about this
program can be found at www.ocair.com along with travel tips
to help passengers “Plan Smart” by arriving
at the Airport early, “Pack Smart” by bringing only one carry-on
bag and one personal item through security screening and on the
plane, and to “Park Smart” by utilizing JWA’s convenient parking options
including valet, terminal parking structures and the off-site
Main
Street parking lot with free shuttle service.
JWA was one of 54 airports and airport authorities that submitted
entries in the contest. Award categories cover a wide range of media
including brochures, advertising, marketing and public relations campaigns,
newsletters, special events, video and film productions, and Web sites.
