SANTA ANA, CA – John
Wayne Airport (JWA) officials are expecting record passenger numbers
this
Memorial
Day weekend as
Orange County travelers take to the skies for the long holiday weekend.
The holiday is the traditional start of the busy summer travel season
at the Airport, with the weekend’s busiest travel days expected
to be this Friday and next Monday.
“We just came off a record setting April that saw passenger
levels at John Wayne Airport increase 16.1% from the same time period
last year,” said Airport Director Alan Murphy. “We are
expecting a very busy Memorial Day Weekend. Holiday travelers should
make sure they leave early and arrive at the Airport at least 2 ½ hours
prior to their flight to leave ample time to park their car, check
their baggage, and get through security.”
John Wayne Airport officials are asking travelers to plan ahead this
holiday season and take advantage of the following travel tips to help
assure a comfortable and stress free trip:
JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT TRAVEL TIPS
Tip #1 - Allow Yourself Adequate Time.
Be sure to arrive at the Airport at least 2 ½ hours prior to
your scheduled flight. You will need the time to navigate increased
traffic and heavy crowds.
Tip #2 - Limit Carry-On Baggage.
With Holiday travel, most flights are filled to capacity. Overhead
storage is at a premium. Limit your carry-on to one bag and one
personal item such as a purse, briefcase, laptop, or diaper bag.
Tip #3 – Be Prepared For Screening.
All carry-on items (including cell phones, lap-tops and film) will
be x-rayed. Be prepared to place cell phones, keys, pagers, etc.
in a carry-on bag, take laptops out of their carrying case, and take
coats and jackets off for X-ray inspection.
Tip #4 – Place Undeveloped Film In Carry-On Luggage.
The machines that X-ray checked baggage may damage undeveloped film.
The ones that X-ray carry-on baggage will not. As such, make sure you
place all undeveloped film and cameras with undeveloped film in carry-on
baggage only.
Tip #5 – Be Prepared To Show Photo Identification.
Bring both your
boarding pass/ticket and a government-issued photo ID. Children under
the age of 18 do not require an ID.
Tip #6 – Be Prepared To Have Your Vehicle Inspected.
All vehicles
entering Airport parking structures are subject to search by Airport
Police Services.
Tip #7 – Before You Leave For The Airport, Call Your Airline
To Double Check Flight Times.
Don’t leave for the Airport until
you’ve called your airline to double-check your flight times.
It will save you a lot of headaches if you happen to find out your
flight is leaving two or three hours late….or worse, cancelled.
Tip #8 – Make Sure To Thoroughly Check Your Luggage.
Make sure
to thoroughly check your luggage to avoid mistakenly carrying on prohibited
items. For more information on prohibited items check
the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website at: http://www.tsa.gov/public/interapp/editorial/editorial_1012.xml.
Tip #9 – Avoid Airport Roadway Traffic.
Visitors can help avoid
roadway congestion by parking in the Terminal garages when picking
up passengers ($1 per hour) rather than circling
the roadway.
Tip #10 – Visit JWA’s Website To Help Plan Your Trip.
Visit
the John Wayne Airport website at www.ocair.com to help plan your trip.
It contains valuable information regarding alternative
options, parking, passenger services, airlines, flight schedules,
Airport news, and a map of the Terminal.
PARKING INFORMATION
Parking is available in the A1, A2, B1, & B2 Parking Lots adjacent
to the Terminal ($1 per hour, maximum $17 per day), at convenient curbside

thereafter for a maximum of $23 per day), and at the Main Street Parking
