John Wayne Airport Opens
Fiberspace: Contemporary Fiber & Weaving
Spring 2004 Art Exhibition
Display Featuring Three-Dimensional Weavings From Local Artists
Will Run Through Mid-April

SANTA ANA - John Wayne Airport Director Alan L. Murphy and the Airport Arts Commission are pleased to announce the opening of FIBERSPACE: Contemporary Fiber & Weaving, the Airport’s Spring 2004 Art Exhibition. The display, which features contemporary weavings from local artists, can be viewed in the Concourse Gallery of the Thomas F. Riley Terminal (visible across from Gates 1-4 and 11-14) through April 18.

" The FIBERSPACE exhibition represents an impressive cross-section of fiber and weaving art from several local artists," said John Wayne Airport Director Alan L. Murphy. "With over 30 unusually sculptured, creative and lively interpretations of the ancient art of weaving and fiber use, we are excited to feature it as part of our Spring 2004 Exhibition."

Guest-curator Carol Shaw-Sutton, professor and head of the fiber and weaving department at California State University, Long Beach, is responsible for the exhibition, the second in a two part educational series presenting past and present representations of weaving art. The first exhibition titled AUTHENTIC NAVAJO WEAVING was featured at John Wayne Airport in November 2003.
