JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT TO CLOSE ENTIRE NORTHWEST PARKING STRUCTURE AS PART OF SEISMIC REMEDIATION PROJECT

SANTA ANA, CA – Effective midnight, Friday, August 30, 2002, all four levels of John Wayne Airport’s (JWA) Northwest parking structure (Garage A1) will close to the public as part of the ongoing seismic remediation construction project, which began in May. The parking structure is located directly adjacent to the Thomas F. Riley Terminal on the north end, and is slated to reopen at the end of October 2002.

The seismic remediation of the Northwest and Southwest parking structures will be completed in two phases: Phase One (Northwest – Garage A1) – May 2002 through October 2002 and Phase Two (Southwest – Garage B1) – October 2002 through April 2003. While the structure is safe for everyday use, the seismic retrofit has been implemented to meet the amendments to Uniform Building Code 1994 Requirements.

Passengers are advised to arrive two hours prior to their scheduled flight to allow time for parking, check-in and the security screening process. Customers are advised to use the East Parking Structure (Garage A2 and B2), and the Southwest parking structure (Garage B1), in addition to curbside Valet Parking and Main Street Parking. Shuttle service to and from the Terminal is provided every 15 minutes from the Main Street Lot.

The Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract to Fibrwrap Construction, Inc. on February 26, 2002. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $2,999,000.
