SANTA ANA, CA
– John Wayne
Airport Yellow Cab Service, a joint venture comprised of three taxicab
companies, began serving as the provider of taxicab service for John Wayne
Airport (JWA) effective 2:25 p.m. today.
"Airport
staff made every effort to ensure a seamless transition for our patrons
during this adjustment period," said Alan L. Murphy, Airport
Director. "The commencement of service by the new operator went as
planned and was completed quickly with no disruption to the traveling
public."
Since
March of 2000, American Livery, Inc, dba American Taxi has been the sole
provider of taxi service at JWA. American Taxi filed for bankruptcy in
April of 2001 and JWA received notice that American Taxi would cease
operations effective today.
As part
of a contingency plan, the Airport Director was granted authority by the
Orange County Board of Supervisors to execute an interim agreement with
JWA Yellow Cab. The new operator was the third-rated firm on the slate
from the March 2000 Request for Proposal process and is a joint venture
comprised of Yellow Cab of North Orange County, Inc., Taxi Systems, Inc.,
dba Fiesta Taxi and Cabco Yellow, Inc., dba California Yellow Cab. The
interim agreement will be for a period of six months. At that time the
County will review various options.
