Airport Launches Re-Design And Upgrade Of Information Booths

Santa Ana, CA – John Wayne Airport has initiated a project to re-design and upgrade its two Visitor Information Booths located in the baggage claim areas of the Thomas F. Riley Terminal. The remodel of the Booths is the result of a partnership with the Orange County Tourism Council to promote tourism.

"As the gateway to Orange County, serving 7.7 million annual passengers, John Wayne Airport plays an important role in the campaign to attract more visitors to Orange County, encourage them to extend their visit, and enjoy the County’s many attractions," said Loan Leblow, Interim Airport Director.

The Information Booths currently in operation were built in 1990 as part of the new terminal construction. Since that time, the booths have served as a location for travelers to seek information, primarily about the Airport and ground transportation services. The existing Booths will be redesigned to support the proactive efforts of the County and Tourism Council to seek out and encourage tourism.

The remodel plan for the Information Booths is designed to attract travelers to the booths, provide tourism information, and to visually promote Orange County. The Booths will feature back-lit photos of Orange County images/sites, recreational facilities, and other attractions throughout Orange County. A wide range of brochures and maps will be attractively displayed and accessible to the public. Each Booth will feature an overhead changeable message sign to welcome visitors and convention participants and a plasma screen that can display videos geared toward Orange County tourism. The Booths will also contain existing features including telephone consoles, paging systems and computers.

Information Booth personnel will be trained by the Tourism Council to answer tourism related questions and assist in providing information on a wide range of activities and accommodations available to visitors of the County.

The project will be completed in two phases, beginning with the construction of the south booth and ending with completion of the north booth by December 31, 1998.

The project was designed by Ron Yeo & Associates of Newport Beach and will be constructed by H.L. Miller Construction, Inc. of Orange. The total project cost is $289,000 and will be funded through the Airport Operating Fund.
