Orange County Students Win State And National Awards
In The 1998 International Aviation Art Contest

O. B. Schooley, Director of John Wayne Airport is pleased to announce that Orange County students won 13 of 14 state awards, one second place national award and two first place national awards in the 1998 International Aviation Art Contest. The national winners have been invited to participate in the National Awards Ceremony on March 30, 1998 in the Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Their artwork will be forwarded to compete internationally in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, United Kingdom on July 1, 1998.

This is the third consecutive year that winners of the John Wayne Airport Student Art Contest participated and placed in the International Aviation Art Contest. Children in three age groups, 6-9, 10-13, and 14-17 from across the United States were invited to use their imagination creating a poster for the "Air Sports in the Olympics." Winners were judged on the basis of creativity, technical ability and appropriateness to the theme of the art contest.

The International Aviation Art Contest is generously sponsored by the National Aeronautic Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials and the Federal Aviation Administration in cooperation with the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, Paris, France.
