SANTA ANA, Calif. - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport decreased in July 2006 as compared to July 2005. In July 2006, the Airport served 876,431 passengers, a decrease of 2.5% when compared to the July 2005 passenger traffic count of 898,521.
Commercial Carrier flight operations increased 1.7%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations decreased 1.9% when compared to the same levels recorded in July 2005.
Total aircraft operations decreased in July 2006 as compared to the same month in 2005. In July 2006, there were 29,813 total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings), a decrease of 2.2% when compared to 30,480 total aircraft operations in July 2005.
General aviation activity, which accounted for 70% of the total aircraft operations during July 2006, showed a decrease of 3.6% when compared to July 2005.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange, and is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes three million people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County. The Airport serves more than nine million passengers annually and is governed by the five-member Orange County Board of Supervisors.
