SANTA ANA, Calif. - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport decreased in June 2006 as compared to June 2005. In June 2006, the Airport served 852,422 passengers, a decrease of 0.4% when compared to the June 2005 passenger traffic count of 856,085.
Commercial Carrier flight operations increased 1.8%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations also increased 3.8% when compared to the same levels recorded in June 2005.
Total aircraft operations increased in June 2006 as compared to the same month in 2005. In June 2006, there were 30,993 total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings), an increase of 6.2% when compared to 29,191 total aircraft operations in June 2005.
General aviation activity, which accounted for 72% of the total aircraft operations during June 2006, increased 7.9% when compared to June 2005.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange, and is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes three million people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County. The Airport serves more than nine million passengers annually and is governed by the five-member Orange County Board of Supervisors.
