SANTA ANA, Calif. - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport decreased in May 2006 as compared to May 2005. In May 2006, the Airport served 818,789 passengers, a decrease of 1.5% when compared to the May 2005 passenger traffic count of 831,462.
Commercial Carrier flight operations increased 1.8% in May 2006, and Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations increased 12.6% when compared to the same levels recorded in May 2005.
Total aircraft operations decreased in May 2006 as compared to the same month in 2005. In May 2006, there were 30,575 total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings), a decrease of 1.4% when compared to 31,003 total aircraft operations in May 2005.
General aviation activity, which accounted for 71% of the total aircraft operations during May 2006, showed a decrease of 3.2% when compared to May 2005.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange, and is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes three million people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County. The Airport serves more than nine million passengers annually and is governed by the five-member Orange County Board of Supervisors.
