SANTA ANA, Calif. - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in April 2006 as compared to April 2005. In April 2006, the Airport served 818,040 passengers, an increase of 0.4% when compared to the April 2005 passenger traffic count of 815,145.
Commercial Carrier flight operations decreased 1.9%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations increased 15.1% when compared to the same levels recorded in April 2005.
Total aircraft operations decreased in April 2006 as compared to the same month in 2005. In April 2006, there were 29,120 total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings), a decrease of 7.7% when compared to 31,545 total aircraft operations in April 2005.
General aviation activity, which accounted for 71% of the total aircraft operations during April 2006, showed a decrease of 10.7% when compared to April 2005.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange, and is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes three million people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County. The Airport serves more than nine million passengers annually and is governed by the five-member Orange County Board of Supervisors.
