SANTA ANA, Calif. - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport decreased in March 2006 as compared to March 2005. In March 2006, the Airport served 814,981 passengers, a decrease of 0.8% when compared to the 821,898 passenger traffic count of March 2005 .
Commercial Carrier flight operations decreased 1.7%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations increased 17% when compared to the same levels recorded in March 2005.
Total aircraft operations decreased in March 2006 as compared to the same month in 2005. In March 2006, there were 28,608 total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings), a decrease of 1.8% when compared to 29,137 total aircraft operations in March 2005.
General aviation activity, which accounted for 69% of the total aircraft operations during March 2006, showed a decrease of 2.9% when compared to March 2005.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange, and is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes three million people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County. The Airport serves more than nine million passengers annually and is governed by the five-member Orange County Board of Supervisors.
