SANTA ANA, Calif. - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport decreased in January 2006 as compared to January 2005. In January 2006, the Airport served 697,403 passengers, a decrease of 1% when compared to the 704,106 passenger traffic count of January 2005.
Commercial Carrier flight operations showed a decrease of 1.7%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations showed an increase of 1.6% when compared to the same levels recorded in January 2005.
Total aircraft operations increased in January 2006 as compared to the same month in 2005. In January 2006, there were 28,577 total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings), an increase of 7.6% when compared to 26,557 total aircraft operations in January 2005.
General aviation activity, which accounted for 70% of the total aircraft operations during January 2006, showed an increase of 11.9% when compared to January 2005.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange, and is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes three million people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County. The Airport serves more than nine million passengers annually and is governed by the five-member Orange County Board of Supervisors.
