Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in August 2005 as compared
to August 2004. In August 2005, the passenger traffic count
was 899,923, an increase of 3.2% when compared to the August
2004 passenger traffic count of 872,271.
"We served
more passengers in August than in any one month in the Airport's
history," said Airport Director
Alan Murphy. "As we leave the busy summer season behind,
we're looking forward to continuing our record of efficiency
and customer service for Orange County travelers."
Commercial
Carrier flight operations decreased 3.4%, while Commuter
Carrier (air taxi) operations increased 8.5% when
compared to the same levels recorded in August 2004.
Total aircraft
operations increased in August 2005 as compared to the same
month in 2004. In August 2005, the
total aircraft operations (take-offs and
landings) were 32,634, an increase of 5.1% when compared to the August
2004 total aircraft operations count of 31,058.
General aviation
activity, which accounted for 73% of the total aircraft operations
during August 2005, showed an increase of 8.0% when compared
to August 2004.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting
enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange, and
is the only commercial service airport in Orange County,
California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of
Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport
Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes three million
people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange
County. The airport serves more than nine million passengers
annually and is governed by the five-member Orange County
Board of Supervisors.
