Santa Ana,
CA –
John Wayne Airport established a new record high for November
passenger travel last month as 779,056 passengers utilized the
Airport. This increase in passenger travel represents an increase
of 8.9% over November 2003 traffic counts. Commercial flight
operations increased by 4.4% in November although total operations
decreased by 9.7%.
“The holidays are upon us and the airlines have indicated that
passenger load factors are high on nearly every flight,” said
John Wayne Airport Director Alan
Murphy. “Passengers should expect the Airport to be a busy place for the rest
of the year so we recommend they plan accordingly,” noted Murphy. “Planning ahead
means allowing yourself time at the Terminal, please be sure to arrive at least
1 ½ hour before the scheduled departure of your flight.”
Increased passenger levels are a product of the new capacity
allocations set forth in the Amended Settlement Agreement
between the County of Orange, the City
of Newport Beach, and two community groups. The Amended Settlement Agreement,
which went into effect on January 1, 2003, raised the Airport’s passenger cap
from 8.4 million annual passengers (MAP) to 10.3 million. John Wayne Airport
is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange.
