JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT POSTS STRONG SEPTEMBER PASSENGER LEVELS
720,014 Passengers Make For The Busiest September On Record

Santa Ana, CA – John Wayne Airport established a new record high for monthly passengers last month as 720,014 passengers utilized the Airport in September. The 720,014 passengers represent an increase of 3.9% over last September’s traffic counts. Also, commercial flight operations increased by 6.1% in September, however, total operations saw a 1.6% decrease.

“Passenger levels have remained strong into the fall”said John Wayne Airport Director Alan Murphy. “It appears that the Airport is headed for a busy Thanksgiving and Holiday Season this year.”

Increased passenger levels are a product of the new capacity allocations set forth in the Amended Settlement Agreement between the County of Orange, the City of Newport Beach, and two community groups. The Amended Settlement Agreement, which went into effect on January 1, 2003, raised the Airport’s passenger cap from 8.4 million annual passengers (MAP) to 10.3 million. John Wayne Airport is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange.
