JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT’S BUSIEST MONTH EVER
Passenger Levels Hit All-Time High In August

Santa Ana, CA – John Wayne Airport established a new record high for monthly passengers last month as 872,271 travelers utilized the Airport for their summer travel plans during August. The number represents a passenger increase of 3.2% over last August’s traffic counts. Commercial flight operations increased by 8% in August, however total operations saw a 4.3% decrease.

“It really has been a remarkable summer travel season with July and August both establishing new record highs for passenger levels” said John Wayne Airport Director Alan Murphy. “The August numbers cap off the busiest summer on record at John Wayne.”

Increased passenger levels are a product of the new capacity allocations set forth in the Amended Settlement Agreement between the County of Orange, the City of Newport Beach, and two community groups. The Amended Settlement Agreement, which went into effect on January 1, 2003, raised the Airport’s passenger cap from 8.4 million annual passengers (MAP) to 10.3 million. John Wayne Airport is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange.
