| Santa
Ana, CA - John Wayne Airport passenger levels increased again
in April with an additional 100,000 travelers coming through Airport
gates. The April 2004
passenger total of 766,924 is a 16.1% increase over the April 2003
total of 660,392.
"Each of the first four individual months of the
year have set monthly records for John Wayne Airport passenger
levels," said John Wayne Airport Director Alan
Murphy. "We have yet to reach Memorial Day and we are already experiencing
busy holiday and summer travel type passenger levels almost on
a daily basis."
Total aircraft operations at the Airport also increased this April
with a total of 31,112 take offs and landings -- an increase of 7.9%
from the
same time
last year. In addition, Commercial Carrier flight operations
showed an increase of
11.5%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations posted an
increase of 6.3%.
Increased passenger levels are a product of the
new capacity allocations set
forth in the recent Modified Settlement Agreement between
the County of Orange and community stakeholders. The Modified Settlement
Agreement, which
went
into effect on January 1, 2003, raised the passenger cap
from 8.4 million annual
passengers (MAP) to 10.3 MAP. John Wayne Airport is a self-supporting
enterprise, owned
and operated by the County of Orange.
