(Santa Ana, CA) - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in September 2002 as compared to September 2001. In September 2002, the passenger traffic count was 606,632, an increase of 50.4% when compared to the September 2001 passenger traffic count of 403,467.

In addition, Commercial Carrier flight operations showed an increase of 19.0%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations showed an increase of 27.6% when compared to the same levels recorded in September 2001.

Total aircraft operations increased in September 2002 as compared to the same month in 2001. In September 2002, the total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings) were 31,225, an increase of 33.0% when compared to the September 2001 total aircraft operations count of 23,481.

General aviation activity, which accounted for 75% of the total aircraft operations during September 2002, showed an increase of 38.0% when compared to September 2001.

John Wayne Airport is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange.
