JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT POSTS JULY STATISTICS

(Santa Ana, CA) - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased in July 2001 as compared to July 2000. In July 2001, the passenger traffic count was 726,451, an increase of 5.1% when compared to the July 2000 passenger traffic count of 691,222.

In addition, Commercial Carrier flight operations showed an increase of 14.4%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations showed a decrease of 32.2% when compared to the same levels recorded in July 2000.

Total aircraft operations increased in July 2001 as compared to the same month in 2000. In July 2001, the total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings) were 35,606, an increase of 5.3% when compared to the July 2000 total aircraft operations count of 33,800.

General aviation activity, which accounted for 75% of the total aircraft operations during July 2001, showed an increase of 5% when compared to July 2000.

John Wayne Airport is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange. Last year, 7.8 million passengers traveled through the Airport.

Beginning in calendar year 2001, JWA records have been used for these counts. A comparison of the JWA and FAA counts shows minor differences. The John Wayne Airport counts for "Air Carrier Operations" and "Air Taxi Operations" which are listed in this report are consistent with the records in other reports used by John Wayne Airport to manage and enforce its regulations and ordinances.
