JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT POSTS MAY STATISTICS

(Santa Ana, CA) - Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport decreased in May 2001 as compared to May 2000. In May 2001, the passenger traffic count was 645,617, a decrease of 3.8% when compared to the May 2000 passenger traffic count of 670,783.

In addition, Commercial Carrier flight operations showed an increase of 1.7%, while Commuter Carrier (air taxi) operations showed a decrease of 24.6% when compared to the same levels recorded in May 2000.

Total aircraft operations decreased in May 2001 as compared to the same month in 2000. In May 2001, the total aircraft operations (take-offs and landings) were 32,762, a decrease of 1.8% when compared to the May 2000 total aircraft operations count of 33,373.

General aviation activity, which accounted for 73% of the total aircraft operations during May 2001, showed a decrease of 1.7% when compared to May 2000.

Beginning in calendar year 2001, JWA records have been used for these counts. A comparison of the JWA and FAA counts shows minor differences. The John Wayne Airport counts for "Air Carrier Operations" and "Air Taxi Operations" which are listed in this report are consistent with the records in other reports used by John Wayne Airport to manage and enforce its regulations and ordinances
