Terminal C
BACKGROUND
Completed in 1990, the existing Riley Terminal is located at the northeast corner of the airfield. With the 405 Freeway to the north, MacArthur Boulevard to the east and the airfield to the west, the only possible location for additional commercial passenger facilities at JWA is to the south of the Terminal complex. As a result, the Airport planned for Terminal C to be located immediately south of, and connected to, the existing Terminal B. In order to prepare the site for construction of Terminal C, the Airport completed a series of “enabling” projects including reconfiguration of the South Remain-Over-Night aircraft parking area and deconstruction of Parking Structure B1 (see South RON and Parking Structure B1 Fact Sheets).
PROJECT SCOPE
Terminal C will be a multi-level building comprising a total area of approximately 282,000 square feet, including six new commercial passenger gates, security screening checkpoints, food/beverage and news/gift concessions, three baggage carousels, and a Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS). The project also includes construction of new permanent commuter terminals at the south end of Terminal C and the north end of Terminal A, replacement of passenger boarding bridges at all 14 existing gates in Terminals A and B, as well as a new baggage handling system for all three terminals and other upgrades to Terminals A and B.
Architecturally, Terminal C will draw heavily from the features that make the existing Riley Terminal distinctive. Barrel-vaulted ceilings, clear views throughout the Terminal from landside to airside, use of natural stone and a soft, neutral color palette will create an open, inviting and high-quality environment for Airport users. Included in the contract for Terminal C are interior renovations of the existing Terminals A and B to help ensure a seamless experience throughout the entire Terminal complex.
As part of the Terminal C project, two gates in the existing Riley Terminal will be modified to accommodate United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing of international passengers. One of the three baggage carousels to be built in Terminal C is designed to serve domestic or, when needed, international passenger service.
TIMELINE
Construction on Terminal C is scheduled from August 2009 through late 2011.
BUDGET
Terminal C is estimated to cost approximately $195.9 million. The project is being funded by Airport revenues, General Airport Revenue Bonds, Passenger Facility Charge revenues and Federal grant funding.

The Airport Improvement Program includes construction of a new South Remain-Over-Night (RON) aircraft parking area, a new multi-level Terminal C with six new commercial passenger gates, new security checkpoints, new commuter facilities as well as new Parking Structure C and a Central Utility Plant.
