Parking Structure C

Background

By mid-2009, two major construction projects were completed on the Airport Improvement Program:  (i) reconfiguring the South Remain-Over-Night (RON) aircraft parking area and allocating part of the area for temporary passenger parking, “Parking Lot C”; and (ii) closing and deconstructing Parking Structure B1.  These enabling projects were required to make way for construction of Terminal C and Parking Structure C.

Project Scope

Parking Structure C is a five-level, post-tensioned concrete structure comprising a total area of approximately 725,000 square feet.  This new structure is the first cast-in-place concrete parking structure built in the United States utilizing a buckling restrained brace (BRB) structural system.  Parking Structure C will provide about 2,000 parking spaces to replace the 1,241 spaces that have been eliminated by the deconstruction of Parking Structure B1.

Timeline

Construction on Parking Structure C began in August 2009 and was scheduled for completion in late 2010.  Parking Structure C opened to the public on November 7, 2011.

Phase 2 of construction for Parking Structure C would create approximately 1,200 additional spaces. This second phase of the parking structure will be built when and as needed.

Budget

Parking Structure C is estimated to cost approximately $48.5 million. The project is being funded entirely by General Airport Revenue Bonds.
