Program Components

A key objective of the Airport Improvement Program is to ensure that the new facilities are designed and developed in a way that creates a single, seamless environment for our passengers. The Airport Improvement Program will also emphasize passenger convenience and utilize proven state-of-the-art technology to maximize the safety and security of our passengers, visitors, and tenants. The major projects of the Improvement Program have been defined in the following four components:

Terminal (Between curbfront and aircraft)

A third, multi-level Terminal (C) with six (6) bridged aircraft gates (for a total of 20 commercial passenger gates) and new permanent facilities with space for up to four (4) commuter/regional jets at the north end of Terminal A and the south end of Terminal C.

Upgrades and refurbishments to Terminals A and B will also be undertaken to ensure equality in the environment between the new and existing terminals.

Landside (Parking structures and roadway access)

A new parking structure (2,000+ spaces) and a replacement parking structure (1,200 spaces), kiosk redesign and new landscaping and seating in the Ground Transportation Center.

Airside (Aircraft gates, Remain-Over-Night (RON) parking, fueling, taxiways)

Relocated and expanded South Remain-Over-Night (RON) aircraft parking area, one general aviation hangar replacement, extended hydrant fueling system, and Taxiway A, C and G improvements.

Ancillary

Ancillary projects include construction of an additional right-turn lane on Campus Drive to Bristol St.; modification to airfield components such as helicopter landing pads; relocation of air cargo facilities and operations; and installation of an airport-wide parking guidance system. Most of the relocations are necessary to open the footprint for the South RON, replacement B1 Parking Structure and new Terminal C. Additional ancillary projects may emerge as the program moves forward through the design and construction process.
