John Wayne Airport is fortunate to have approximately 60 dedicated
local citizens acting as volunteer “Ambassadors." The
objective of the Volunteer Ambassador Program is to provide Airport
users with friendly, informed service that enhances their experience
at John Wayne Airport.
“Goodwill” Ambassadors are trained
in customer service to assist passengers with any questions they
have about John Wayne Airport’s
facility or services. Information they provide includes directions
to particular airlines, gates, restaurants, restrooms, phones,
and rental car counters.
Although open to adults of all ages, the majority
of Ambassadors are retired individuals interested in the field
of air travel.
They serve a four-hour shift twice a month and are stationed in
the concourse areas near the security screening points. Each Ambassador
wears a uniform consisting of a red blazer or vest, khaki pants, white
shirt and a “May I Help You?” button, so travelers
needing assistance can easily identify them.
The Airport has not only received overwhelmingly positive feedback
from Airport users and tenants, but from the volunteers themselves.
As one of our dedicated volunteers says (who has been with us since
the program’s inception in July 1998) “I am so proud
to be a part of this wonderful Program. With all of the frustrations
associated with traveling these days, I am thrilled to help make
traveling through John Wayne Airport a pleasurable experience.”
Together the volunteer Ambassadors bring a wealth of experience
to the Airport. Here’s a sample:
Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese,
Spanish and Swahili
Banking, aviation, social work, consumer affairs, engineering,
marketing, international affairs, public relations, real estate,
insurance, sales, military, teaching and computers
Our volunteers are truly “Ambassadors,” not only for John Wayne Airport, but for all of Orange County.
