Airport Projects

John Wayne Airport anticipates issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) / Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) for the following projects. Please note that this may not be a complete list of upcoming projects, and all dates are estimates and subject to change at any time.

Project Name:

Thomas F. Riley Terminal Complex Improvements Project

Project Description:

The Thomas F. Riley Terminal Complex Improvements Project brings various improvements to the Terminal Complex at JWA. Where applicable, all project improvements will be completed to the essential facility standard. These improvements include, but are not limited to architectural improvements; seismic upgrade of Terminal A & B including structural and non-structural items; electrical infrastructure; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) and mechanical systems; plumbing systems; lighting systems; American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance; Information Technology (IT) systems; security and closed circuit television (CCTV) systems; general aesthetics improvements; and fire sprinkler and alarm systems. These improvements will improve existing facilities aesthetics and infrastructure, allowing patrons of JWA and Orange County to experience a uniform level of quality throughout the Terminal Complex.

Status:

JWA is preparing Design-Build Request for Proposals (RFP).

Upcoming Milestones:

Seek Board of Supervisors authorization to Issue Design-Build RFP.  Action anticipated on or about November 25, 2014.

Project Name:

Paularino Gate Improvements

Project Description:

The Paularino Avenue Gate is JWA’s main vehicular airfield access gate and is located at the southeast terminus of Paularino Avenue. The intersection of Paularino and Airway Avenues is approximately 450’ northwest of the Paularino Avenue Gate. The intent of the project is to accomplish the following:

  • Paularino Street Reconstruction
  • JWA Administration Building Improvements
  • Guard Shelter and Security Fence Improvements

Status:

The Orange County Board of Supervisors awarded the A-E contract to AE Consulting, Inc. on September 30, 2014. The project is in design.

Project Name:

Campus Drive/Bristol Street Right Turn Lane Project

Project Description:

The project consists, in general, of widening southbound Campus Drive to provide an additional 600 foot long, third right turn lane onto northbound Bristol Street. The work includes removal of existing facilities and vegetation, demolition of an existing maintenance building, site clearing, grading, road pavement, curb return, retaining wall, traffic signal modification, temporary security fence, perimeter security fence, signing, striping and pavement marking, curb and gutter, landscaping, tree removal, and adjusting and relocating utilities and amenities in and around the project site.

Status:

Board award is anticipated on January 13, 2015.

Project Name:

Lighting System Upgrades

Project Description:

Throughout the Riley Terminal and other facility locations, JWA currently utilizes a mixture of T12 parabolic fixtures, T12 soffit fixtures, T12 open architecture fixtures, multi-lamp open architecture fixtures, high-intensity discharge (HID) fixtures, and high pressure sodium light fixtures. JWA seeks to replace these fixtures with efficient T8, LED, or similar fixtures.

Status:

The A-E contract was awarded to TTG Engineers on September 30, 2014.

Construction bid advertisement is anticipated in Spring 2015.

Project Name:

Cellphone Lot Project

Project Description:

The Cellphone Lot Project will reconfigure the existing taxi lot to accommodate both a taxi staging lot and a separate cellphone lot. The existing taxi lot, in its current configuration, accommodates roughly 105 taxis and limos. The new design will divide and reconfigure the lot to accommodate roughly 115 taxis and limos in one lot, and roughly 18 spaces for airport patrons in the cellphone lot.

Status:

A-E contract awarded to Civil Works, Inc. on May 30, 2014.

Seek Board authorization to issue Construction RFP. Action anticipated in November/December 2014.

Project Name:

Taxiway Bravo Rehabilitation

Project No.:

Project Description:

Taxiway Bravo is a 75’ wide, full-length, parallel taxiway to Runway 2L/20R. The taxiway serves commercial jets as well as general aviation. The project will rehabilitate Taxiway Bravo from the south end at Taxiway Delta approximately 4,300’ north to a previously completed rehabilitation project. The rehabilitation should extend the service life of the taxiway an additional 20 years. The project will also phase construction to minimize impacts to both commercial and general aviation aircraft operations. Additionally, the project will realign the centerline striping at the Taxiway Bravo/Taxiway Lima intersection according to current FAA standards.
