Remarkable Safety
and Security

Continued Vigilance–
for Travel Confidence

Your flying experience at John Wayne Airport always begins with a safe and secure environment and we are vigilant about maintaining the highest degree of security. During 2016, our unwavering commitment to meet or exceed all federally mandated security regulations continued through close working partnerships with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Airport Police Services (Orange County Sheriff’s Department – OCSD) and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (Orange County Fire Authority – OCFA). Safety and security is top of mind for us so you can relax and enjoy your flight.
John Wayne Airport conducted two field emergency response exercises to practice emergency communications, Unified Command and small aircraft incident response.

Better Access
and Communication

  • The Airport purchased an Air Stair Truck to facilitate emergency ingress to commercial aircraft containing passengers, but not located at a loading bridge.
  • Implemented the County’s new Everbridge mass notification communication system which John Wayne Airport uses to communicate with its employees and tenants during emergency events.
Once again, we successfully passed the annual FAA Part 139 Inspection in January, ensuring John Wayne Airport’s continued adherence to stringent federal safety practices. This detailed three-day evaluation encompassed a thorough review of daily inspection and annual training records, as well as a comprehensive airfield assessment.

Simulation Training

The Airport conducted an Active Shooter and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Response Exercise in December. The exercise allowed Airport Police Services, OCSD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and OCFA to practice responding to simulated threats. Over 60 volunteers supported the exercise held in the Riley Terminal.
