FINE ART TILES BY MIKE TAUBER ON DISPLAY AT JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT

SANTA ANA, Calif. - A selection of ceramic tile artworks by Laguna Beach artist Mike Tauber are on exhibit April 8 through May 8, 2014, in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal as part of John Wayne Airport's Community Focus Space Program. Tauber's works can be seen on the Departure (upper) Level near the security screening areas in Terminals A, B and C and on the Arrival (lower) Level adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4.

The works displayed consist of hand-painted imagery on ceramic tiles, which are then combined into mosaics. The theme of this exhibition is "Golden State," in which the artwork depicts scenes of California's lush landscapes.

"Most of these works are inspired by places I have visited while hiking, mountain biking, kayaking or snorkeling. Viewers will recognize iconic natural locations including Mendocino, Yosemite, Monterey, Santa Barbara, and of course Orange County. As one who appreciates the outdoors, I am grateful to our forefathers for preserving these native areas and wildlife, and hope to inspire others to value them," said the artist.

Tauber utilizes traditional ceramic painting methods along with "lost wax" painting to create his works. Now a full time artist, Tauber previously worked as an architectural illustrator and draftsman prior to becoming a fine art muralist in the late 1990s. His work has been commissioned by Whole Foods Markets, Kaiser Permanente, The City of Tustin, and the San Diego Port Authority among others.
