TSA Pre✓™ "POP-UP" INFORMATION CENTER OPENS AT JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT
SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced its plans to expand the successful TSA Pre✓™ program to passengers at John Wayne Airport (JWA) beginning this December. TSA Pre✓™ is part of the agency's larger effort to implement risk-based security concepts that enhance security by focusing efforts on travelers considered high-risk and about whom the agency knows less.
Under TSA Pre✓™, U.S. citizens traveling domestically who are select Alaska, American, Delta, United and US Airways frequent fliers or members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler programs are eligible to participate and may receive expedited screening benefits. Benefits include being able to leave shoes, light outerwear and belts on, keeping laptops in cases and 3-1-1 compliant liquids in a carry-on bag.
A temporary "Pop-Up" Information Center, located near the security screening checkpoint in Terminal A, will allow travelers to learn about how to participate in TSA Pre✓™. Membership in a CBP Trusted Traveler program will make an individual eligible for TSA Pre✓™. Interested individuals will be able to begin the application process for one of CBP's Trusted Traveler programs at the Information Center on three dates – November 15, 19 and 21.
We think TSA Pre-Check will be very well received by our passengers," said Alan L. Murphy, Airport Director at JWA. "Convenience is the hallmark of our airport and this program will make it even more convenient to use John Wayne Airport."
Global Entry is a CBP program that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers, expedited entry into the United States. Upon arrival in the U.S. from international travel, Global Entry members are able to bypass the traditional CBP inspection lines and use automated kiosks.
Travelers scan their passports and fingerprints, answer the customs declaration questions using the kiosk's touch screen and proceed with a receipt to the exit with the whole process taking about a minute. U.S. citizens enrolled in Global Entry automatically qualify for participation in TSA Pre✓™ for domestic travel.
Travelers interested in Global Entry must complete an online application, pay the $100 application fee, undergo a background investigation and complete an interview with a CBP officer at a Trusted Traveler enrollment center which includes submission of fingerprints. Upon approval, membership is valid for five years. Travelers with Global Entry membership interested in TSA Pre✓™ should enter their PASS ID number into the 'Known Traveler' field when booking a domestic flight reservation.
