ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC RADIOS TO BE FEATURED AT JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT

SANTA ANA, Calif. - A collection of antique and classic radios will be on display at John Wayne Airport now through July 16, 2012. The collection will be exhibited in the Vi Smith Concourse Gallery of Terminal A across from Gates 2 through 5 and in Terminal C across from Gates 18 through 21.

The exhibition, titled Sound Design, features 86 radios on loan to the Airport from the collection of Mark and Janet Hilbert. The majority of the radios were manufactured in the 1930's, 40's and 50's.

"The Airport is pleased to feature this unique collection in our Vi Smith Concourse Gallery," said Airport Director Alan Murphy. "This exhibition is a great way to share a part of American history with John Wayne Airport passengers."

"A Radio in Every Room" was the marketing goal for many of almost 600 table radio manufacturers located in the United States between the late 1920's and the early 1940's. It was an era when table radios were what connected Americans to the world.

Ticketed passengers who have passed through security will be able to view the display, which can be seen across from Gates 2 through 5 and Gates 18 through 21 in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal. For more information about JWA’s art program, visit www.ocair.com.
