PHOTOGRAPHER BARBARA HIGGINS FEATURED IN COMMUNITY FOCUS SPACE PROGRAM AT JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT

SANTA ANA, Calif. - A selection of photographs depicting various locations around Newport Beach, Calif. by artist Barbara Higgins, is being featured in John Wayne Airport's (JWA) Community Focus Space Program now through May 19, 2011.

"To honor the 100th Birthday of Newport Beach, I began to document the city by focusing on reflections that I now experience as nostalgic memories of family, friends and culture," says Higgins. "I began photographing reflections of Newport Beach in January 2005 in anticipation of the centennial celebration in 2006. For me, photographing reflections is about exploration and discovery, both in the creation of a composition and the surprising layers that are revealed in the finished print."

Higgins' images are usually produced using black and white film, which helps the artist convey a 'timeless' quality in her work. Barbara Higgins was born in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts.

Higgins' passion for photography stems from childhood and led to a career change in 2000 when she left behind a successful sales career in the technology industry to explore life through the camera.

Higgins' art work will be displayed on the Departure (upper) Level near the security screening checkpoints and on the Arrival (lower) Level near baggage carousels 1 and 4.
