ARCHITECTURAL STYLES OF ORANGE COUNTY FEATURED
AT JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT
SANTA ANA, Calif. - A collection of photographs showcasing classic architecture around Orange County is now on display at John Wayne Airport (JWA) in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal A Vi Smith Concourse Gallery through January 10, 2011. Featured in architect Richard Dodd's book "Architectural Styles of Orange County", the photographs display historical homes and buildings around Orange County, from Mission San Juan Capistrano to the famed "Witches House" in Laguna Beach (pictured below).
The "Witches House" features a unique style of architecture found in the artist colony of Laguna Beach and was built by Vernon Baker on weekends from 1924-29. Baker began as a carpenter in Whittier and later became chief architect for the UCLA Medical Center. Click to link to photo gallery.
"The history of architecture in Orange County is the story of the American Dream, rendered upon a unique landscape," says Dodd. "It is a story of how styles and methods of building evolved, how movements trickled into our world, and how trend-setters and visionaries here helped set the standard for the world. How our county grew is a story unique to California and to our place in the developing frontier."
Richard Dodd is a native of Orange County and has been an architect in Newport Beach, California since 1960. His work has been published in books and magazines including Architectural Digest, California Living and Better Homes & Gardens.
Ticketed passengers who have passed through security will be able to view the display, which is shown across from Gates 11 - 14 in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal. Mr. Dodd's book "Architectural Styles" is available in the Hudson News and Gift stores located in Terminal A at John Wayne Airport. For more information about JWA's art program, visit www.ocair.com.
