SANTA ANA, Calif. - A collection of paintings by artist Kevin Short will be featured as part of John Wayne Airport’s (JWA) Community Focus Program and will be on display now through July 26, 2010.

"I apply oils on canvas, freely and loosely, using tangible points of reference both materially and visually to balance abstraction and reality," says Short. "I am obsessed to show the world I live in, painted in a manner devoid of staged melancholy and contrived sentiment."

Born in San Diego, and raised in Santa Barbara, Short’s love for the ocean began through sailing, fishing, and spending long days in the surf. Years later his studies formalized with oil painting at the University of New Mexico, Pepperdine University in Malibu. He went on to graduate with honors from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Short’s works have been featured on the cover of the Los Angeles Times and Surfer’s Journal, and in exhibitions as far away as The Happening in Sydney, Australia and as near as a solo show at Mission San Juan Capistrano. Short’s paintings will be displayed on the departure (upper) level near the security screening checkpoints and on the arrival (lower) level near baggage carousels 1 and 4.
